Tadanori Yokoo

Tadanori Yokoo

Born in 1936 in Hyogo Prefecture. He lives in Tokyo.

The works in this exhibition include four from Yokoo's "Y-Junction" series, the origins of which can be traced to 2000 when Yokoo was captivated by the way a street he "discovered" in his hometown which at first glance appeared completely normal diverged in a way that one might call "reverse perspective." At around the same time Yokoo began work on other series, including the "Bathhouse" and "Hot Springs" series. "Kinosaki Fantasy" (2006) is a work from the latter series. As seen in these works, Yokoo often uses collage. "Kinu River - Around the World in a Day" (2006) is based on a real tourist attraction, a theme park in Kinugawa Onsen that contains over a hundred scale models of famous buildings. The seamless blend of falsehood and truth is typical of Yokoo's work. As he once commented, "The way ideas bounce around inside my head is itself collage-like... Thinking is collage. In fact, living itself may well be collage."
