Friends of the National Maritime Museum
The Friends of the National Maritime Museum Association was established in 1991. Its goals include supporting and expanding the Museum's permanent display (especially those parts of it that are based on Museum collections); enriching the collection with original maritime artifacts, and transforming it into a collection of international scope and importance; promoting educational activities related to maritime history and to the sea; promoting and supporting local and international publications on maritime themes; and attracting the general public to the Museum by means of cultural events on maritime themes and the organization of temporary exhibitions.
In the near future, the Friends Association shall focus on two main projects:
- Restoring and exhibiting the ship from Ma'agan Michael in an exhibition space that will also include an audiovisual display and educational activities.
- Establishing a new wing dedicated to modern shipping and ports, which will reflect the contemporary aspects of the Israeli shipping industry and of local shipping vessels, including a section on the Haifa port.
You can become an active member of the Friends Association, and to support the promotion of the National Maritime Museum and of maritime culture.
