Gil & Moti
In recent years, Gil & Moti have turned to creating installations and performances that undermine the boundary between art and life, and focus on homoerotic themes in multicultural political contexts. This installation is related to their previous works, and especially to the work exhibited here as part of the Haifa Second International Installation Triennale (2003). For this earlier work, the artists used Internet dating sites to engage in virtual relations with Arab men, as an expression of the longing to create intimate ties that transgress existing political boundaries. The current installation revolves around the result of this search. It is composed of embroidered items of clothing left behind following the departure of Oliver - a Lebanese man who entered their lives, moved in with them and even joined their marital union in an official ceremony. The vestiges of this relationship are given expression by means of carefully embroidered items of clothing, whose presence underscores the absence of their owners and marks the end of this relationship.
