Born in 1972 in Tokyo. He lives in Tokyo.
Ishida worked in painting, performance, and other fields before taking up stop-motion animation. Drawing forms the basis of most of his work, a characteristic of which is the incorporation at the structural level of music.
"Gestalt" (1999) examines the relationship between the outside and inside of windows and between windows and paintings, and entailed Ishida painting pictures directly on a wall. "Reflection" (2009) was completed during a residency at the Aspex art space in Portsmouth. According to Ishida, "I was anxious because I knew I probably wouldn't be able to complete a wall-based stop-motion animation work of the density of "Gestalt," which they had probably seen (and which took about one year to make), during the month-long residency... When I saw the gallery, however, my anxiety vanished. There was already a beautiful painting being conjured in light on the wall of the room. All I had to do was trace it".
