Chim↑Pom

The group was founded in Tokyo in 2005.

The six members of Chim↑Pom are rare examples of younger artists in Japan drawn to social issues. Their approach involves filming staged events that reveal particular truths and document pressing problems. On show at the exhibition is the installation "Super Rat" (2008), which was one of the group's first and most famous works. It includes a video in which Chim↑Pom members catch rats in the Shibuya neighborhood of Tokyo, home to numerous shops and restaurants, and nearby are stuffed fat rats that were caught during the staged event. They are posed like Pikachu, a character from Pokemon.
