Assi Meshullam

Lexicon of Principles presents the main tenets of the Order of Impurity - a religion without a god, whose belief system is supposedly compatible with the philosophical and visual characteristics and needs of contemporary society. The Order of Impurity is based on the thought of Thy Sheperd, a hybrid creature whose being embodies a fusion between an animal and a god, as well as between the urges and the intellect. Meshullam makes use of existing forms of religious expression - such as religious texts and exegesis, calligraphy, symbols, and a language reminiscent of biblical language - in order to communicate the beliefs of this order. He thus sheds light on the paradigms that give rise to religious belief, and to the manner in which belief gives rise to the formation of a community. One of the order's goals is to spread its system of beliefs, and to enlarge its community of believers. Lexicon of Principles, which was first exhibited at Julie M. Gallery in Tel Aviv, is now being presented at the Haifa Museum. In the future, one would expect the work to be presented at additional venues in order to keep spreading the order's gospel.
