Block Group
The artistic activity of the Block Group, which has been working in for several years, is centered on strategies of site-specific engagement. The work featured in this exhibition directly relates to the urban landscape of Haifa and to various areas in the city, where social gatherings traditionally took place around fountains. The fountain motif addressed in this work is thus of great importance in the history of the city's social life. This frozen fountain is made of bare concrete, into which paper ships have been submerged. The installation planned for the exhibition's opening night invites community members to reassemble around an architectural landmark. In this manner, the fountain reflects something of the city's character and of the community relations that define it. The work has a playful aspect, while also alluding to collective memories. The installation of the work in the museum space blurs the boundaries between the private and the public spheres, and between the personal realm and the realm of community life.
